Wimbledon 2012 : Watch Roger Federer vs Mikhail Youzhny live Today

The biggest day of the year in tennis was a bit of a flop at Wimbledon 2012, as several of the men's matches in the singles draw were affected by rain. No less than five matches saw their completion postponed due to disagreeable weather on Monday. Two matches did not even see a single point played.

However, three results did come in, and one of the quarterfinal matchups is set. Roger Federer will face Russia's Mikhail Youzhny.

The matchup is one that Federer fans have to be thrilled with.

Youzhny is not really known for his grass-court prowess, and Wimbledon 2012 is just the first time the 30-year-old Russian has made the quarters at the All-England Club. Additionally, Federer holds a commanding edge in head-to-heads, as he has defeated Youzhny in all 13 of their previous matches.

That head-to-head series includes five wins for Federer on grass, and those five matchups include a recent win at ATP Halle 2012 and a win in the fourth round at Wimbledon 2011.

Making matters worse for Youzhny is the fact that he faced a much tougher match in the fourth round than Federer faced. The World No. 3 won his match against Xavier Malisse in four sets—with just one long set. On the other hand, Denis Istomin extended Youzhny to five sets, and that included three long sets.

There's not a lot of perspectives that suggest Youzhny has much of a chance in his next match. He's won his quarter only twice in his career, and both of those results were at Flushing Meadows.

Federer has coughed up so-called surprise losses in the Wimbledon quarters in the last two seasons.

In 2010, Tomas Berdych eliminated the Swiss Maestro, and in 2011, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeated Federer after he ran out of gas in their quarterfinal match.

Perhaps Federer's stumbles in recent years redeem Youzhny's chances a little bit. However, both Berdych and Tsonga were in their tennis prime when they played Federer at Wimbledon. Youzhny and Federer are similarly aged, and the Russian appears to be nearing the tail end of his career—unlike Berdych and Tsonga.

The odds certainly imply a Federer win, as he is a -1600 (1/16) favorite with Sportingbet. Youzhny has the fatigue factor and the historical trends working against him, and that would make a win in the quarters later this week a shocking result.
